Assisted History Matching and Uncertainty Analysis Workflow for a Large Oilfield in Middle East

Abstract This paper proposes an assisted history matching (AHM) and uncertainty analysis workflow that was applied to facilitate the history matching of a giant carbonate reservoir in Middle East. The objective was to identify and quantify reservoir uncertainties and assess their impact on the field performance. In addition, to create a sufficient number of realizations …

High-Performance Reservoir Simulations on Modern CPU-GPU Computational Platforms

Abstract With growing complexity and grid resolution of the numerical reservoir models, computational performance of the simulators becomes essential for field development planning. To achieve optimal performance reservoir modeling software must be aligned with the modern trendsin high-performance computing and support the new architectural hardware features that have become available over the last decade. A …

Numerical Simulation of Reservoir Salt Dissolution Using Fully Implicit Scheme Within Isothermal Compositional Model of Hydrocarbon Filtration

Abstract The article addresses the problem of numerical simulation of the salty water properties after the dissolution of hard reservoir salt following water flooding. A new method is being proposed for the simulation of reservoir salt dissolution within the isothermal models of black oil and compositional model of hydrocarbon filtration, based on fully implicit numerical …

Fully Coupled Geomechanics Approach to Determine Critical Wellbore Intervals

Abstract A method to locate critical wellbore intervals during oilfield development is proposed in this article. A variant of fully coupled geomechanics approach is used. Geomechanical 3D modeling is performed on the same mesh that is used for reservoir simulation. The proposed algorithm uses Mohr-Coulomb criterion to locate critical wellbore intervals.

Hybrid Approach to Reservoir Modeling Based on Modern CPU and GPU Computational Platforms

Abstract For modern day reservoir simulators, it is essential to provide realistic physical description of reservoirs, fluids and hydrocarbon extraction technology and guarantee excellent performance and parallel scalability. In the past, the advances in simulation performance were largely limited by memory throughput of CPU based computer systems. Recently, new generation of graphical processing units (GPU) …
