Support Geoscientist

Overview of Role:

Rock Flow Dynamics is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Geophysicist or Geologist with 3-7 years of experience to join our geoscience team. The role is primarily geophysical with a significant geological modelling component. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of subsurface data, geoscience workflows, seismic interpretation and geological modelling tools. As a Support Geoscientist, you will work closely with clients to understand their specific needs and provide tailored software demonstrations, technical support, and training to ensure an excellent user experience.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the technical focal point for software support and evaluation for current and prospective clients across Egypt, both onsite and remotely.
  • Support business development teams in presales meetings by delivering demonstrations of tNavigator; RFD’s seismic interpretation and geological modelling software.
  • Proactively identify and scope technical solutions that address client requirements, ensuring the delivery of appropriate technical support.
  • Represent the company at conferences, industry events, internal events, and exhibitions as required.
  • Deliver training sessions to clients and internally as needed.
  • Identify and communicate business development opportunities in the energy sector to ensure effective follow-up by the sales team.
Skills and Knowledge

Required – Geological Interpretation (core focus):

  • Strong knowledge of seismic interpretation tools (e.g. Petrel, Kingdom, DecisionSpace, OpendTect).
  • Solid experience in structural and stratigraphic seismic interpretation.
  • Knowledge of seismic -to-well tie workflows, including wavelet extraction, synthetics calculation, and calibration.
  • Well log interpretation and correlation, including basic petrophysics for seismic calibration.
  • Understanding of velocity modelling and time-depth conversation workflows.

Required – Geological Modelling (secondary focus):

  • Working knowledge of geological modelling tools (e.g. Petrel, RMS).
  • Understanding of structural framework modelling, including fault modelling, horizon modelling, and 3D grid construction.
  • Familiarity with facies and petrophysical property modelling using geostatistical and non-geostatistical methods (e.g. variogram modelling, SGS, SIS, object modelling, etc.), volumetric calculations and uncertainty workflows.

Required – General:

  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills, with great attention to detail.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English, both spoken and written.
  • Strong ability to prioritise tasks to maintain excellent customer satisfaction.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and effective both independently and in team environments.

Desirable:

  • Experience with seismic well attribute analysis and quantitative interpretation (e.g. spectral decomposition, coherence and curvature for fault mapping).
  • Familiarity with AVO analysis, seismic inversion (post-stack/pre-stack), and rock physics fundamentals.
  • Experience with upscaling static models for dynamics simulation and with uncertainty analysis workflows (multiple realisations, scenario modelling).
  • Understanding of reservoir simulation tools (e.g. tNavigator, Eclipse, CMG).
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python for workflow automation.
Education and Experience

Required:

  • MSc degree in Geology, Geophysics, or similar discipline.
  • Experience as a Geophysicist, Geologist, or Technical Sales Geoscientist with subsurface software experience.

Desireable:

  • Understanding of the full end-to-end geoscience workflow, including seismic interpretation (structural and stratigraphic), seismic-to-well tie, depth conversion, geological interpretation, static modelling, volumetric calculations, and uncertainty assessment.
